Description
Record of the 1904-1910 meeting minutes for the Portuguese Benefit Society of Our Lady of Help, transcribed by the secretary or acting secretary at the time. These are the first meeting minutes recorded for this organization.
The first meeting of the Portuguese Benefit Society opens with a discussion about disability and death benefits for future members and the minimum requirements for the amount of money in the funds and members of the society. Officer positions were also elected (some temporarily, in the case of sick members), and the meeting was adjourned.
The following entries for meeting minutes begin with a call to order by followed by role call and the reading of the past meeting minutes for approval. Correspondences, such as bills, thank you notes, and other letters sent to the Portuguese Benefit Society are read aloud for the officers, and any members receiving disability benefits are also noted on the record. Several other topics are discussed in these early meetings, such as initiating new society members, holding votes and elections for early society decisions, information about the society's funds and accounts, payments and records for members' benefits, financial information about the Hall, and other details about monetary expenses for the Portuguese Benefit Society.
The spine of the book reads "Records."
