Description

The video displays scenes from the Festa da Trinidade procession that took place in Lowell, MA in 1988. Some participants wear traditional outfits and march with livestock or musical instruments. Groups of musicians form to play music for the festival celebrants and singers emerge from the surrounding crowd to join them, mimicking a cantoria performance. The footage then cuts to a musical performance by three women. This performance is followed by a speech about the festival being recorded and photographed for Washington D.C. by several professionals to collect information on Portuguese customs and traditions. The peformances by the three women then resume as audience members dance in the plaza.
