1988 Cantoria 5º Desafio Portuguese American Civic League, Lowell, MA

The fourth Cantoria ao Desafio at an event in Lowell, MA performed by Azorean singers José Amaral (black suit) and João Lionel (light suit) while accompanied by two guitar players, Jorge Silva and Vítor Silva. The Cantoria begins with the same footage of the announcement about the performance, the singers and players, and the lack of available seating as Cantoria 4º. The performance ends with a speech by Eduardo Papoila where he announces the Cambridge Cantoria that happened on February 6th and other audience members speaking into the microphone. The video concludes with footage of the guitar players playing an impromptu Cantoria for some of the singers.

The first title card in the video states that this event happened on January 16th, 1988, but the second title card starts this event occurred on January 30th of the same year.

Cantorias ao Desafios (also known as Desgarradas) are a song form based Portuguese musical tradition where the singers improvise lyrics about the topic or emotion of their choosing over instrumental music and take turns challenging or responding to each other.
