Letter from the Institution of the Confraternity of the Most Holy Name of Jesus in Saint Anthony's Church, with summary of indulgences

The document is addressed to the Christians of Lowell, Massachusetts and the Archdiocese of Boston authorizing the creation of the confraternity and the establishment of an altar and chapel in Saint Anthony's church. The letter is signed by Fray Jacinto Maria Cormier, Professor of Holy Theology and Master of the Order of Preachers (ordem dos Pregadores). By apostolic authority and with consent from the local ordinary, the order was permitted to function as a brotherhood of the Most Holy Name of Jesus.

The brotherhood must celebrate the feast of the same holy name on January 1st—the date for the circumcision of Jesus Christ, and also hold a procession on the second Sunday of every month.

This letter also includes information about the indulgences granted to the members of the confraternity by the Roman Pontiffs.
