Description
Richard Mahoney confirms receipt of a letter and expresses his happiness for the good news he received as well as his desire that Bishop da Silva obtain from the government what is [monetarily] due to him.
He says that the news about the closing ceremonies of the Holy Year—which took place in Rome—as well as the papal blessing elicited enthusiasm throughout the community. He informs Bishop da Silva that the members of the congregation rejoiced when they learned of his visit to the Oblates of Rome.
He announces that on February 17th, they celebrated the anniversary of the approval of their congregation rules (Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate) by Pope Leo XII and "O Loving Pelican" [Bishop da Silva's composition] was sung for entertainment in honor of this event.
He hopes that Bishop da Silva is enjoying life at the English College and mentions the hot temperatures in Lisbon. He reports on the development on his own studies and of the perpetual vows he will make the following September.
The letter was sent from Washington, D.C. and delivered to the English College (Colégio dos Inglesinhos) in Lisbon.
