Title

Letter from Mary McMahon to Henrique José Reed da Silva (February 26th, 1926)

Date

1926-02-26

Description

Mary McMahon informs Bishop da Silva that, in December, she had sent a letter to Rome for him and hoped that he had received it. She asks that he write to tell her about the ceremonies in Rome.

She recalls the moment he boarded the "President Wilson" [a ship] and notes the lonesome feeling she felt upon his departure. She reminisces a time where they all sang together.

She reports the harsh winter in Lowell and describes the commemoration program to celebrate Lowell's Centennial, lamenting its cost given the state of the town.

The letter was sent from Lowell and delivered to the English College (Colégio dos Inglesinhos) in Lisbon. The back of the envelope indicates that the sender is Mrs. James Francis McMahon.
