Reverend M. Thouvenin, of Saint Mary's college (colégio de Santa Maria) in Van Buren, Maine, asks Prelate da Silva, who is pastoring at Saint Anthony's Church (igreja de Santo António) in Lowell, Massachusetts, if he can take the place of the Bishop of Portland (Louis Sebastian Walsh), who has become ill, and ordain Father Marista. He then gives directions regarding the travel to Van Buren.
