Father Taveira refers to a letter that was lost in transit in which he sent his condolences for the death of Bishop da Silva's brother, "Senhor General."

He reminds Bishop da Silva that the dedication for the church will happen on the 9th of September and provides details about the trip. He discusses the quality of the navigation service for the company "White Star Line" that connects to the Azores (São Miguel Island) and the United States.

He mentions sending a list of the steamboats that are leaving up until November, as well as a copy of the memorial that accompanied the lost letter.
