Revenue and Expenditure Budget of the Bishopric of São Tomé de Meliapor for the Economic Year 1888-1889

With respect to the revenue budget of the bishopric of São Tomé de Meliapor (Saint Thomas of Mylapore, known today as Mylapore), this document includes the rent from urban and rural properties; the assets of the courts and "tehsils"; interest; the subsidy from the Portuguese government; the legacies of João do Monte and, additionally, several revenues. Regarding the expenditure budget, it includes the costs with the See Cathedral, the vicar-generals, the parish priests, the missionaries, the coadjutors, the sacristans and the catechists. Following that are the costs of the diocesan seminary, the São Tomé high school, the São João Crisóstomo school (in Calcutta), the women's college in Mylapore, the women's college in Calcutta, the parochial schools (for elementary education), and the charity institutes (the São Tomé orphanage, the poor house for women in Mylapore and the poor house for men in Covelong.) The expenses for employees of the bishophric are added together, and there is documentation of general charges, festitivies and worship, and other expenses. It ends with the approval of the budget for 1888-1889.

The expenditure and revenue budgets are combined for 1888-1889, and there is a mention of approval. Both budgets are signed by the Bishop of Mylapore, Henrique José Reed da Silva, in Westlake.
