Depiction of Manuel E. Sousa and Antonio C. Picanso (Picanco)'s clothing store on 99 and 103 Gorham Street in Lowell, MA. This store became the successor to Ostroff & Sousa Co. in October of 1912 when it was renamed to Picanco-Sousa & Co., though the name was often shortened to "P. Sousa & Co." in advertisements. In addition to being a partner of this company, Anthony C. Picanso was well-known for being one of the founding members of the St. Anthony's Church in Lowell, MA.
In 1919, the store became Sousa P. & Co., Inc. and Picanso served as the company's Secretary while Sousa served as Treasurer. In March of 1923, the store would move to 90 Middlesex Street, and after Picanso's death in 1924, Sousa would continue serving as the treasurer of the business.
Sousa (left) and Picanso (right) are pictured on the right side of the photograph. Their wives, Mary Avila Picanso and Josephine Sousa, likely stand to their left.
