Description

The Emily Brown was originally built for Captain Frank Brown. He was born on Pico Island in 1897 and emigrated to the United States in 1914. He settled in Gloucester and joined the Portuguese fleet dory on the Little Ruth.

At the age of 23, he married Olivia Sears and, in 1927, he launched his first vessel. It was named Olivia Brown, after his wife.

In 1929, Olivia suddenly died of a cerebral embolism, leaving behind four children. The following year, Frank married Olivia's sister, Emily. Later, in 1944, Frank had a second vessel built, this one named after Emily. This ship is pictured here, second from left.
