Description

Location unknown (likely a beach near New Bedford). Evelyn Ida Coderre, pictured with Lillian, was born in 1911 in Rhode Island. Her parents were French-Canadian. Her father was a railroad telegrapher, who died leaving a young family. The family then moved to New Bedford. Evelyn's mother worked in a textile mill and Evelyn became an R.N. She worked at Boston City Hospital in the 1930s and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946. She served from 1946-1966 and reached the rank of commander. She died in Newport, RI in 1997.
