Albino Ribas was born on March 22, 1901 in Padroso, Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1918, settling in Lawrence. There, he met his future wife, Rose Silva.
Rose (or Rosa) was born on May 18, 1903 in Lawrence to Portuguese immigrant parents, Manuel and Maryanna (sometimes listed as Maria) Silva.
After they got married, they went on to have three daughters (Mary, Eileen, and Geraldine) and one son (Beverly). Albino supported his family through his work as a tailor.
Their son, Beverly (who went by Bernard), became one of the founding members of Marshall's, an off-price department store. The first store was opened in Beverly, Massachusetts.
