After the parade, the organizer of the event gives a speech about the raising of the flag, and then a priest speaks about the history and religious implications of the event. The group then has a moment of silence for Humberto Correia, a well-known Portuguese advocate in Lowell. The flag is raised, and then Lowell Councilor Caulfield, Councilor Matt Donahue, Councilor Mulligan, and Representative Thomas Golden are introduced before Councilor Laurie Machado gives a speech about the history of Portuguese immigration and the Portuguese community in Lowell. One final speaker makes a speech about the legacy of the Portuguese community, and the Rancho Folclórico Juventude Unida de Lowell is initiated begins a dance performance.
