He says that the news about the closing ceremonies of the Holy Year—which took place in Rome—as well as the papal blessing elicited enthusiasm throughout the community. He informs Bishop da Silva that the members of the congregation rejoiced when they learned of his visit to the Oblates of Rome. <br />
<br />
He announces that on February 17th, they celebrated the anniversary of the approval of their congregation  rules (Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate) by Pope Leo XII and &quot;O Loving Pelican&quot; [Bishop da Silva&#039;s composition] was sung for entertainment in honor of this event.<br />
<br />
He hopes that Bishop da Silva is enjoying life at the English College and mentions the hot temperatures in Lisbon. He reports on the development on his own studies and of the perpetual vows he will make the following September.<br />

His brother moved to the United States in 1960 under the Azorean Refugee Act after the Capelinhos volcano erupted. He later followed his brother and immigrated to the United States in September 1970. He originally moved to Hartford, CT but then moved to Lowell in 1976.<strong><br /><br /></strong><strong>Scope and Contents:<br /></strong>Interview conducted by Barbara Fertig of the American Folklife Center.
