Transmissões da RTP para os EUA 1 Os nossos mais sinceros Agradecimentos Seguros de Automóveis Aumentam No estado de Massachusetts, os seguros de automóveis são regularizados pela Comissão de Seguros. No passado dia 22 de Dezembro de 1992, a directorn desta comissão, Sra. Kay Doughty, aprovou e anunciou um aumento de 5.2%, que é o mais baixo registrado nestes últimos quatro anos. Anunciou também que esta percentagem resultaria num aumento. cm média, de $44 por apólice. Claro que as tarifas são, como sempre, contingentes de vários factores: na cidade onde o veículo está registrado; o comportamento de condução de cad~ indivíduo, e o tipo e quantia de riscos que a apólice abrange. A RTP resolveu abrir, a título experimental. a sua transmissão para diversos países, onde residem maior número de portugueses e para isso decidiu que essas emissões experimentais fossem temporariamente gratuitas, para captar a opinião e possível adesão do nosso povo, espalhado por esse mundo fora. No entanto, e como é obvio, só as pessoas, que possuam os sistemas de antena parabólica, podem ter acesso à recepção da RTP ou ainda por intermédio de qualquer companhia de cabo (cable) que resolva abrir um dos seus canais e transmitir os refor.idos programas para os seus assinantes. No entanto - e por aquilo que sabemos - nenhuma das companhias locais está na disposição de aceitar a recepção das emissões da RTP e as transmissões gratuitas serão encerradas oficialmente a partir do dia l de Março de 1993. Para ser aqui apresentado um quadro mais resumido sobre o assunto, a partir do próximo dia 1 de Março, só aqueles que possuam o-sistema de antena parabólica poderão receber as emissões da RTP e mediante um pagamento mensal que foi já estabelecido pela sede em Lisboa. Uma medida lógica, que poderá ser encarada e tomada pelos nossos leitores, seria pedir às companhias locais de cabo para que estas aceitem o contrato da RTP e que abram um canal português para aqueles que o queiram receber nas suas casas. Para que assim aconteça. poderá ser formulado um pedido colectivo e assinado por todos e remeter esse (conclui na p. 8) "A informação tem pouco conteúdo a não ser que seja misturada com experiência". Em qualquer comunidade, existe um núcleo central que normalmente dá apoio moral e presta serviços de várias ordens aos restantes membros. São nestes outros núcleos exteriores que, por vezes, encontramos indivíduos que, devido às suas qualidades extraordinárias, se destacam entre os restantes. São estes que nos fazem reflectir, apreciar ou mesmo tirar deles lições positivas. Não é com calculador ou escala, que se mede o mérito de ninguém. Infelizmente esta é uP1a obra. muitas vezes, subjectiva, mas a minha permanência de trinta e três anos dentro desta comunidade e as muitas observações silenciosas, provavelmente, dão maior autenticidade ao que agora afirmamos. , Bons ficheiros financeiros podem poupar tempo e dinheiro. Guarde estes para fins de "lncome Taxes" e como prova de pagamentos. • Documentos de Income Taxes (federal e estadual com a respectiva documentação). Guardá-los por seis anos. Eventualmente poderão ser necessários, no caso de um exame oficial de contas. • Documentos relacionados com a compra de casa (s). Guardá-los pennanentemente, com preferência num cofre bancário. E<;tes serão necessários para calcular - e poupar nas taxas de lucros capitais, se tiverem de investigar a história financeira de propriedades que possuíram e venderam. IRS Publication #552 Deterioração no Seio da Família Seguros Aumentam Pesquisas feitas, através do mundo inteiro, já concluíram que a deterioração da nossa sociedade presente é o produto da destruição que, ao longo dos tempos, tem prevalecido no seio da família. Rcferimo-nos aqui à família, como sendo composta por pais e filhos. É na unidade da família onde cada ser humano aprende os princípios fundamentais para o desempenho dos seus deveres na vida, é sobretudo, onde se aprende uma das coisas mais importantes - o valor da vida humana. Dada a deterioração da família, o valor da vida humana tem sofrido muito. O resultado é a violência que não só se demonstra nas acções da família, fora do lar, mas também no inte1ior da mesma. Receita Para o Sucesso Empreiteiros e a Nova Lei Quando cheguei ao parque de estacionamento da firma do Sr. Luís Pedroso e encontrei someme dois carros estacionados. imediatamente concluí que era feriado para muita gente e que. com os nossos afazeres. tínhamos marcado uma entrevista sem nos apercehermos d;:i data. Cheguei a duvidar se ele cstaiia ou não, mas logo me apercebi que sim. Pensei "é este um dos sinais de um bom negociante, cumprir com os seus compromissos". O Luís concordou falar com o Arauto mas pediu que, cm vez de falarmos sobre a sua pessoa, preferia falar sobre um assunto que tem muita importância para ele: a necessidade dos estudos nos dias de hoje e a preparação da nossa juventude portuguesa para o futuro. Ele falou na necessidade de criar motivação para os nossos jovens e na importância de começarmos a fazê-lo quando eles são ainda muito pequeninos. Ele pensa que, sem estudos e orientação, os nossos jovens portugueses dão enu·ada no mercado dos empregos em desvantagem. Tendo trabalhado, em diversas modalidades, com jovens que acabam muitas vezes por se desanimar com os estudos, devido às dificuldades do nosso ensino escolar. o Luís também reconhece que estes têm tendência de imitar os amigos e muitas vezes acabam por desistir dos estudos sem terem uma pequena noção dos seus actos. Ele sente pena de não haver uma maneira de ajudar todos mas, por vezes isso, é impossível. No entanto, o Luis sorri, quando fala sobre um jovem que. andando desiludido com os estudos. acatou os seus conselhos e ainda hoje frequenta a universidade. Também reconhece que necessitamos de prestar atenção às necessidades sociais destes jovens e menciona programas de desporto como "basketball" e "cheerleading". O Luís já esteve ligado directamente a algumas organizações, que prestam assistência a jovens da nossa comunidade. No entanto, sendo ele uma pessoa que necessita ver resultados rápidos, sente frustração com a política e falta de acção que muitas vezes se verificam naquelas. Quando concordei com de. disse-me que é necessário a cooperação de gente, para haver um possível e contínuo progresso. Quando são de diversas camadas sociais, sempre os mesmos a colaborarem, corremos o risco das ideias estagnarem. Mas ele diz que se sente feliz, sempre que se registam progressos. Conversámos durante qua<,e duas horas. Eu pensava que ia fazer muita<; perguntas. mas não foi necessário, pois ele foi direito aos pontos principais. Reconhecemos nele grande capacidade, com ideias organizadas e com sentido. Como bom profissional, acabou por também me fazer perguntas. E, como bom negociante. quando soube que o meu filho estava na universidade, solicitou a ajuda dele para dar explicaçôcs no programa do Youth Ccntcr. E. quando se No dia I de Julho de 1992, entrou em vigor uma nova lei exigindo que empreiteiros responsáveis por obras designadas a "melhoramentos de casas", se registem com o Massachusetts Board of Building Registration & Standards. Este registo pode custar entre l00 a 600 dolares, dependendo do número de trabaJhadores que o empreiteiro tenha por sua conta. Esta lei foi estabelecida devido ao grande número de queixas feitas àccrca de empreiteiros que faziam trabalhos mal feitos ou não completavam o trabalho em causa. Os fundos recebidos destes registos, serão depositados num Fundo de Garantia que será usado para recompensar aqueles consumidores que tiverem disputas com trabalhos feitos por empreiteiros. Como anteriormente, o consumidor tem de tentar receber recompensa através do tribunal e se o caso fôr decidido a seu favor, demonstrando que tentou receber o dinheiro do empreiteiro, pode requerer compensação ao Board of Building Regulations & Standards até ao montante de $10.000. O Juíz da Paz é um indivíduo que, por ordem do Secretário do Estado de Massachusetts, pode adquirir licenças para o seguinte: (1) pode obter uma licença para executar o matrimónio civil, e (2) pode obter uma outra licença que lhe dá poder de executar funções para ordens de prisão, citar alguém como testemunha para casos de tribunal, e ainda para ter poder de prender alguém ou poder tomar o lugar de um juíz no tribunal de "Reclamações Menores". Muitos dos Juízes da Paz só tem a licença para executar matrimónios civis. O Juiz da Paz pode cobrar uma gratificação pelos seus serviços. Pela execução de mat.rimónios, se estes forem feitos dentro da cidade onde a sua licença está registada, pode cobrar somente o momante de $45. Se prestar serviços fora da cidade, pode cobrar $60. Se este tiver de se apresentar para ensaios, antes do casamento, pode cobrar uma gratificação adicional, mas não superior à da execução do matrimónio. Estes preços estão em vigor desde 4/12/90 referente à lei do Capitulo 71 1, pois as cotas antecedentes eram ainda inferiores e se o Juíz da Paz cobrar preços mais altos que estes, estará a infringir a lei e pode sofrer consequentes punições. Biographical Note Born on the Azorean island of Terceira, in the village of Biscoitos, in 1950; Dimas Espinola immigrated with his family to the United States in the late 1960s, settling in Lowell’s “Back Central” (predominately Portuguese) neighborhood; his father, formerly a furniture maker in Biscoitos, obtained a job as a loom fixer in the Wannalancit Mills; his mother worked in a shoe factory; Mr. Espinola received his formal education in schools on Terceira and, upon arriving in Lowell, he secured a work permit and, at nearly 17 years of age, he was employed in a manufacturing job in the Paris shoe factory on Bridge Street; at the same time Mr. Espinola, a communicant at St. Anthony’s Church, began working closely with the pastor, Rev. By them Jesus reveals to us the mystical doctrine of the "Indweling of the most Holy Trinity" in our hearts. We hear Him say "The Spirit remains with you and will be in you". Then He goes on to say "I will come to you and I am in the Father and you are in me and I in you. Having heard these words directly from the lips of Jesus ourbeloved patron, Peter, himself is able to write what we just heard in his letter: "Beloved: Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts." Items include a transcript from the local youth radio program (Ecos da Juventude), issues of the youth-written newsletter (Um Jornal da Juventude), and photos of members of the youth group itself (Juventude em Marcha). <br /><br />Biographical Note:<br /><br />Maria de Lourdes (Brasil) Serpa is a Professor Emerita at Lesley University and has specialized in bilingual education throughout her career. She has designed Master’s programs and doctoral specializations in Bilingual-ESL Special Education and served as director and co-director of two major 5-year education projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education. She has dedicated her time to serving bilingual education in Massachusetts, serving on several committees of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.</span><span> </span></p> <p><span>Maria de Lourdes was born in São Jorge, an island in the Azores. Her father, Abel V. Brasil (1922-2005), and her mother, Maria de Lourdes Brasil (1923-1994), were also born on the island of São Jorge. They immigrated to the United States on July 4, 1969, and settled in Lowell, Massachusetts.</span><span> </span></p> <p><span>Soon after arriving, Maria de Lourdes and two of her siblings, Lasalette and Joe, quickly got involved with the local Portuguese American community in Lowell. In 1970, she started the Saint Anthony’s Portuguese Choir, which was the first choir at Saint Anthony’s Church. Mary Lou Silva served as the organist and Joe Brasil was the guitar player. During this time, in 1970-1971, Maria and other young people began meeting about starting a youth group, eventually named “Juventude Em Marcha”. The official co-founders of the group were Dimas Espinola and Lasalette Brasil. Maria de Lourdes wrote the first draft of the constitution in 1971 before having it approved by all group members. Saint Anthony’s priest at the time, Fr. Silva, supported this venture.</span><span> </span></p> <p><span>These discussions occurred at the same time as two other youth group projects: “Ecos da Juventude”, a local radio program created for Portuguese youth, and “Um Jornal da Juventude”, a newsletter dedicated to youth issues. “Ecos da Juventude” was run by a team made up of Maria de Lourdes, Dimas Espinola, Joe Brasil, Lasalette Brasil, and Conceicao Cipriano (serving as the Youth Group Secretary). “Um Jornal da Juventude” was edited by Lasalette Brasil, but was a collaboration between multiple members of the Youth Group.
