These negatives record life in the Portuguese Community of greater Lowell, circa 1920-1925. The identities of the people in the photographs remain a mystery; it is believed that they depict members of the Portuguese community who came to Lowell from the Azores, Madeira, Cape Verde, and continental Portugal. Like many immigrants to Lowell, the Portuguese came looking for jobs. They found employment in the textile mills, foundries and tanneries.
