He details the feelings that New York provoked in him, invoking the lavishness of the city that, at the cost of modernity, brings ease to the day-to-day lives of its people. Regarding the United States in general, Father Taveira discusses the churches as well as the stipends and donations that the priests receive. He mentions the Portuguese congregation in Fall River as well as Taunton, Massachusetts, a place where many Azoreans live.
